Leith’s favourite weekly community cinema Leith Kino is back this Spring, with a host of new film screenings celebrating the underseen, undervalued and unfairly maligned in cinematic history. We’re kicking off from 8th February at our home of Leith Depot on Leith Walk with François Truffaut’s ode to Hitchcock in The Bride Wore Black (1968) programmed by Liam Schell. Next up on 15th Feb is Tod Browning’s pre-Code horror Freaks (1932) which we are screening as a companion piece to our screening of Reid Davenport’s I Didn’t See You There (2022) last year, programmed by Charlie Little. Last in our February programme but certainly not least, we screen Miami Connection (1987) from the American Genre Film Archive – a tale of motorbike riding cocaine-slinging ninjas vs a guitar-synth-pop-rock band of taekwondo orphans, programmed by Fraser Elliot. The Leith Kino programme for Spring 2026 will continue weekly on Sundays at Leith Depot until 29th March, with an additional surprise or two thrown into the regular programme for good measure, so keep your eyes peeled on our Instagram and Substack for further programme updates!
The Leith Kino programming team includes: Fraser Elliott (HOME Manchester), Morvern Cunningham (Local Cinema), Hal Young (University of St Andrews), Camilla Baier (Invisible Women), Thomas Johnson (Peanut Press), Charlie Little (We Crip Film), Malgorzata Bugaj (University of Edinburgh), Lucy Birkerton (Surrender Dorothy Leeds), Liam Schell (Toronto Metropolitan University) and Soraya Mamiche and Josh Booker (Choon Room).
Our host venue Leith Depot is fully accessible, with an accessible toilet in the ground floor screening space. Every Kino screening includes descriptive captions in English, regardless of spoken language. Regular Leith Kino events are priced at £6 each (unless it’s a special event), with a limited number of free tickets available for all screenings.
